He is the last hope of ravaged America!
Disarmed and leaderless after a savage Russian sneak attack, the United States is united no longer. But a lone jet fighter ace has emerged to lift America from the ashes of defeat. A fearless warrior of the skies, he has come to restore his fallen homeland to greatness. He is Hawk Hunter, WINGMAN!
The armies of freedom now control the western U.S. But the evil New Order is raising a huge mercenary force to reclaim America, and Hawk Hunter, the battered nation's most fearless top gun fighter pilot, takes to the air to prevent this catastrophe from occuring. His goal: to rescue the country's major eastern cities from the treacherous clutches of the occupying death masters. From the cockpit of a remarkable mini-airplane, Hunter launches a series of spectacular bombing raids, lending his vastly outnumbered liberation fighters much-needed air support. But total victory calls for ingenuity and surprise, as Wingman attempts to infiltrate the overwhelming foe's inner circle, flying right into the hands of the very people who most want him dead!
The solution called for a short match. Hawk Hunter watched the Flanker reach its take-off point, and as soon as its wheels left the runway, he gunned the Mirage. The Flanker was bigger than his French flying outhouse. The only advantage Hunter had was quicker take-off speed.
But now the Flanker had done a quick twist and was heading back toward him. The pirate was intent on shooting Hunter even before the Mirage could take off.
"OK, jerk," Hunter said. "You've just solved my problem for me."
Hunter wasn't even airborne when he launched the missile—he had simply raised the nose of the Mirage and fired the damn thing. It came off his wing with surprising smoothness, and impacted on the Flanker's nose cone. An instant later the Soviet jet's filled-to-capacity fuel load ignited and obliterated the airplane.
End of duel.
