Trapped in the smoking rubble of what was once New York City, Ben and his ragged band of followers are beset by overwhelming odds. The terrorist Khasmin is marching north to join the cannibalistic Night People and the forces of Sister Velora, with the final annihilation of Ben's holdout army as their goal. Defeat seems a certainty. But Ben Raines has faced overwhelming odds and has made tough, crucial decisions before. Now, he must muster what forces he has to strike one hard, crushing blow or America will die, taking the last hope of freedom with it.
"Creepies in the building!" Cooper yelled.
And then one entire wall of Ben's office blew out in a deafening explosion.
Ben found himself sprawled on his back in the dark hallway. As dark shapes moved toward him, he jerked a grenade from his battle harness, pulled the pin, and hurled the grenade toward the far end of the hall. He scrambled back into his debris-filled office just as the grenade blew.
"It's a full scale attack," Ben said to Cooper. "The Night People are throwing everything they've got at us." He looked around him, trying to see through the murk. "Anybody here hurt?"
"Just a few cuts and bruises," Cooper said.
Before Ben could reply, another massive explosion shattered the night and the roof fell in on top of everyon crouching in Ben Raine's CP...
